Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Position Overview

Virta Health is on a mission to transform diabetes care and reverse the type 2 diabetes epidemic. Over half of US adults face type 2 diabetes or prediabetes and Virta is changing this by leveraging innovations in technology, personalized nutrition, and virtual care. With over $350 million raised from top-tier investors and partnerships with large health plans, employers, and government organizations, Virta’s impact is far-reaching. As an SRE on the Infrastructure team, you will build the foundation that accelerates the company’s pace while meeting strict security and compliance requirements. You will play a key role in defining and driving the future vision of reliability and observability, and help transform traditional processes with automation and AI-driven insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement an AI‑driven observability and metrics platform that automatically detects anomalies and highlights SLO risks.
  • Enhance observability, reliability, and efficiency using a mix of off‑the‑shelf technology and internally developed tools in Python and Go.
  • Build observability modules (SLOs, alerting, dashboards) to enable product teams to spin up MVPs quickly.
  • Improve incident readiness through better tooling, game days, and the codification of self‑healing runbooks.
  • Collaborate with product teams on reducing manual toil via capacity planning, load testing, and transitioning to predictive/AI‑driven scaling models.
  • Ship automation and tooling that reduces toil and improves reliability while mentoring and coaching engineering peers.
  • Within your first 90 days, share knowledge through pair programming and code reviews, propose process improvements, and deliver a proof‑of‑concept for an AIOps initiative.

Required Qualifications

  • Highly proficient in shipping backend code in production environments with strong expertise in reliability and production readiness practices.
  • Hands-on experience with automation and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform modules preferred), with a background in observability implementation.
  • Proven success in designing and implementing highly observable, scalable systems including configuring AIOps/ML‑based monitoring platforms.
  • Strong AI fluency – comfortable leveraging AI/ML‑assisted observability (e.g., anomaly detection, error‑budget burn prediction) along with concepts like prompt engineering and AI‑assisted workflows.
  • A growth mindset with the ability to coach, mentor, and continuously improve engineering practices.
