Senior Program Manager I - Strategic Partnerships

ABOUT onX

As a pioneer in digital outdoor navigation with a suite of apps, onX was founded in Montana, which in turn has inspired our mission to awaken the adventurer inside everyone. With more than 400 employees located around the country working in largely remote / hybrid roles, we have created regional “Basecamps” to help remote employees find connection and inspiration with other onXers. We bring our outdoor passion to work every day, coupling it with industry-leading technology to craft dynamic outdoor experiences.

Through multiple years of growth, we haven’t lost our entrepreneurial ethos at onX. We offer a fast-paced, growing, tech-forward environment where ownership, accountability, and passion for winning as a team are essential. We value diversity and believe it leads to different perspectives and inspires both new adventures and new growth. As a team, we’re hungry to improve, value innovation, and believe great ideas come from any direction.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

onX is expanding into a new category of strategic partnerships, where our products have the potential to be integrated into external platforms and ecosystems. This work represents a meaningful evolution of our product and platform—and introduces a new level of complexity in how we execute across teams and with partners.

We are seeking a Senior Program Manager I to support the execution of these new initiatives by driving clarity, alignment, and coordination across cross-functional teams. This role will be deeply embedded in a high-priority partnership, working day-to-day across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Privacy, and Partnerships to ensure work progresses effectively in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.

This is not a traditional program management role. There is no established playbook for how this work operates today. Success in this role will depend on your ability to create clarity where it doesn’t exist, align teams with different priorities, and keep work moving forward despite changing requirements and shared ownership.

You will work closely with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Vertical, and Partnerships teams, along with other executive stakeholders, serving as a central point of coordination across internal teams and external partners. This role plays a critical part in ensuring we deliver a high-quality, reliable partner experience while continuing to improve how we operate over time.

This role will report to the Chief of Strategy and Partnerships and partner closely with cross-functional leaders across the organization.

As an onX Senior Program Manager I, your essential job duties environments, by maintaining clarity and alignment across teams

Create clarity where roles, ownership, or processes are undefined, reducing friction and unblocking progress

Work efficiently with technical stakeholders by ensuring their time is used effectively, and their input is leveraged where it has the most impact

Support Scoping, Planning, and Decision-Making

Partner with Product and Engineering to support scoping and planning of work

Ensure teams have a shared understanding of scope, timelines, risks, and planning, resourcing, or coordination and drive them to resolution to keep work moving forward

Manage Partner and Internal Communication

Serve as a key conduit between internal teams and external partners

Ensure communication is clear, consistent, and proactive, minimizing misalignment and building trust across teams and partners

Enable partners to feel confident in onX’s execution through timely, transparent updates and alignment on expectations

Translate internal decisions, constraints, and tradeoffs into clear, actionable partner-facing communication

Identify and Manage Risks Proactively

Maintain awareness of risks, dependencies, and potential blockers across teams

Surface risks and issues early so they can be addressed before impacting timelines, quality, or partner experience

Ensure risks are clearly understood and owned by the appropriate stakeholders

Operate with a “look around corners” mindset in a space with no established playbook

Improve Coordination and Ways of Working Over Time

Identify and implement improvements that reduce friction, increase clarity, and improve how teams coordinate and execute

Establish systems that improve coordination, visibility, and accountability

Reduce ambiguity over time by introducing structure where needed, without adding unnecessary overhead

Contribute to evolving how partnership initiatives are executed as patterns and needs emerge

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Within the first 3–6 months:

Cross-functional initiatives move forward with clear alignment across teams, reducing confusion, rework, and stalled progress

Teams share a clear understanding of scope, priorities, ownership, and timelines, even as work evolves

Communication—internally and with partners—is consistent, proactive, and trusted, minimizing surprises and misalignment

Risks, dependencies, and blockers are surfaced early and addressed before impacting delivery or partner experience

Partners experience onX as organized, responsive, and reliable, with strong confidence in our ability to execute

Work feels more coordinated and less reactive over time, with improved clarity in how teams operate together

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

5–8+ years of experience in Program Management, Product Operations, Product Management, Project Management, or similar roles, driving complex, cross-functional initiatives

Proven ability to operate in ambiguous environments and outcomes

Ability to drive progress without direct authority by building alignment, influencing stakeholders, and facilitating decisions

Comfort working with engineering teams and technical concepts, with the ability to identify risks and ensure strong coordination across technical work

Ability to engage technical stakeholders efficiently—bringing clear context, asking focused questions, and leveraging their expertise without creating unnecessary overhead

Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical teams, business stakeholders, and external partners to ensure shared understanding

Demonstrated ability to identify gaps in planning, coordination, or communication and take action to resolve them

Strong judgment and proactive problem-solving skills, with a track record of anticipating issues and addressing them before they escalate

High ownership mindset, with a focus on driving outcomes and maintaining forward momentum in ambiguous environments

Comfort operating in environments with shared ownership, where success depends on collaboration rather than direct control

Familiarity with AI tools or automation to improve workflows, visibility, or execution efficiency

THE ONX EXPERIENCE

onX is a distributed company with more than
