Scientist III, Spectroscopy/Analytical Chemistry
How will you impact?
The R&D Scientist II will be supporting a cross-functional team working toward the design and commercialization of new cell culture media and media supplement products. They will apply chemistry and spectroscopy skills to conduct established assays and play a role in developing novel analytical methods.
A Day in the Life:
- Operates autonomously or with limited guidance from supervisors or senior researchers.
- Develops spectroscopic methods (e.g., FTIR, Raman, XRF) for identity testing of biotherapeutic ancillary raw materials as well as process monitoring.
- Develops chromatographic methods and supports quantitation of small/large molecules.
- Assists in troubleshooting existing products and work with internal and external customers to implement solutions.
- Acts as the expert in spectroscopy and provides technical knowledge for functional and cross-functional project related activities.
- Writes protocols and reports, present data, and work across multiple groups.
Keys to Success:
Education
Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or other related field (PhD, master’s plus 2 years- or bachelor’s plus 7 years- relevant industry experience).
Experience
- Knowledge and experience in some or all spectroscopic methods (FT-IR, NIR, Far-IR, Raman, XRF, etc.) is required.
- Experience with Chemometrics or multivariate analysis for classification or regression methods such as PCA, PLS regression, PLS-DA, etc. especially for spectroscopic or other analytical chemistry data is strongly preferred. AI or machine learning experience is a plus
- Previous experience with chromatography techniques such as HPLC/UHPLC, IC or LC-MS technology is a differentiator.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Works both independently and in a team setting.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
- Performs successfully under pressure while prioritizing and handling multiple projects or activities.
