As a Middle Market Underwriter, you’ll help Central fulfill its promise to its customers by effectively managing your assigned territory, building strong relationships with agents, writing a profitable book of business, and providing top-notch service. Key Responsibilities of the Role <ul> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Manage and underwrite assigned book of middle market business to achieve profitability and meet financial objectives</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Select profitable new business through analysis of the risks presented, coverage requested, and losses incurred</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Classify and price risks appropriately using underwriting judgement and analytical tools and resources</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Handle complex or larger accounts that may require reinsurance placement</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Monitor premium growth for assigned middle market territory, conducting profit and growth analysis by territory and agency</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Identify opportunities for book improvement and work with Distribution on implementing necessary changes</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Lead reviews on larger accounts exceeding letter of authority</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Keep current on state/territory issues and regulations</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents, traveling as needed for agency visits</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Communicate effectively, providing prompt and professional service</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Develop and maintain strong internal relationships within the Underwriting Team and with other business units such as loss control, customer service, claims, and marketing</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Provide input and data to help drive and implement strategic underwriting initiatives</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Maintain appropriate underwriting file documentation</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Demonstrate a commitment to continuing education and development</li> </ul> Required Qualifications <ul> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 2 years of experience in Commercial Lines Underwriting</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Or 4 years of experience in Commercial Lines Underwriting</li> </ul> Preferred Qualifications <ul> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;"> Experience in underwriting Middle Market accounts</li> </ul> Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities <ul> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Strong knowledge of underwriting principles and guidelines to evaluate and manage highly complex accounts effectively</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Solid time, organizational, and desk management skills</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Ability to apply advanced underwriting concepts including risk selection, exposure and hazard identification and control, coverage implications, and loss analysis</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; color: #585951;">Effective verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence to achieve favorable outcomes</li> <li style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
