Position Summary
Columbia Lutheran Home is seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Unit Coordinator to support our nursing team in delivering high-quality resident care. In this role, you will assist with the day-to-day coordination, documentation, and administrative functions related to resident services. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment, demonstrates strong organizational skills, and provides excellent customer service to residents, families, and staff.
This position works 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare charts and required documentation for new admissions, re-admissions, and discharges
- Accurately record medical and administrative information in a timely manner
- Coordinate and communicate resident appointments with nursing staff
- Escort residents to medical appointments as needed
- Ensure proper resident identification (records, wristbands, ID cards, etc.)
- Schedule diagnostic and therapeutic services appointments
- Forward completed charts for discharged residents to the Medical Records Department
- Provide courteous and professional customer service to residents, families, and visitors
- Follow all safety regulations, infection control standards, and facility policies
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a multi-tasked, detail-oriented environment
- Proficiency with standard office equipment (computer, multi-line phone, fax, copier)
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work with a diverse population
Preferred:
- NAC (Nursing Assistant Certified) certification
- Previous experience as a unit secretary or similar healthcare role
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, and perform repetitive motions
- Frequent use of hands for grasping, fingering, and handling
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally
Work Environment
- Primarily performed in a resident care setting
- May require occasional travel; employee must provide personal transportation and maintain proof of insurance
