Critical Care Nurse Practitioner
UCSF Medical Center is seeking a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (CCNP) to provide expert advanced practice nursing in adult ICUs. This role involves directing and providing patient care, maintaining quality standards, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. The CCNP will contribute to an academic medical center environment, supporting the mission of promoting health through patient care and education.
Practice Info
- Provide and direct care for patients in the adult ICUs at the UCSF Medical Center.
- Rotate through focused care ICUs including cardiothoracic, neurologic, neurosurgical, medical, general surgical, and transplant.
- Work collaboratively with physician students, residents, fellows, and attending physicians.
- Participate in the precepting of Advanced Practice Provider (APP) students and post graduate fellows.
- The CC APP team provides care in all adult intensive care units including Cardiac, Neurologic, Medical, and Surgical intensive care units.
- The CC APP group is active in various quality improvement, cost reduction, and professional development projects.
Responsibilities
- Provide and direct care for patients in the adult ICUs.
- Maintain quality of care standards for all procedures and clinical care provided in the ICUs.
- Provide self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the medical center.
- Provide medical and nursing care under the supervision of the Physician Director of Adult Critical Care Medicine and individual collaborating physicians.
- Provide care in accordance with standardized procedures.
- Be proficient in arterial catheter insertion, central venous catheter insertion, ventilator management, sedation, and pain control.
- Work collaboratively with physician students, residents, fellows, and attending physicians.
- Participate in the precepting of Advanced Practice Provider (APP) students and post graduate fellows.
Compensation
- The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
- Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
- For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
Shift & Schedule
- Scheduled for 12 hour rotating shifts from days to nights including holidays and weekends.
Requirements
- Required: Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing recognized Nurse Practitioner Program with a master's or doctoral degree aligned with the patient population and clinical role.
- Required: One (1) year of recent experience working in Adult Critical Care as a Nurse Practitioner or completion of an accredited critical care practice transition program.
- Preferred: Completion of an accredited critical care practice transition program.
- Preferred: Two (2) years of recent experience as an inpatient Adult Nurse Practitioner in an academic medical center.
- Preferred: Author of publication in peer reviewed journal.
- Preferred: Experience as faculty or instructor in graduate nursing program.
- Required: California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction.
- Required: California Nurse Practitioner (NP) License without restriction.
- Required: California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number.
- Required: NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role (ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC).
- Required: Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address.
- Required: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Required: Additional required AHA certifications: ACLS.
- Required: Additional required certifications: ENLS.
