Fractional Firm Advisors works with growing small and mid‑sized law firms that need experienced operational leadership without adding a full‑time executive. We are currently assisting a mid‑size law firm in identifying its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
**Position is for a full-time CFO, not fractional**
We are seeking an experienced CFO to serve as the firm’s financial leader, responsible for strategic financial planning, operational finance, and fiscal stewardship. This role partners closely with the Managing Partner, Executive Director/COO, and Practice Group Leaders to ensure financial health, support long‑term growth, and strengthen profitability across the firm’s practices and offices.
This position is based in the Miami, FL area.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and execute the firm’s financial strategy, aligning with partnership goals and long‑term growth plans.
- Advise firm leadership on financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Lead annual budgeting, multi‑year forecasting, and scenario planning.
- Guide financial aspects of partner compensation models, lateral partner evaluations, mergers, and strategic investments.
- Oversee all accounting, billing, collections, trust accounting, and payroll functions.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of monthly and annual financial statements.
- Maintain internal controls and compliance with legal industry requirements, including trust/IOLTA account regulations.
- Supervise billing rates, realization, matter profitability, and pricing strategies.
- Analyze practice group and matter-level profitability; recommend improvements.
- Partner with Practice Group Leaders on financial performance management.
- Lead initiatives to strengthen cash flow, working capital, and operational efficiency.
- Oversee budgeting and financial reporting for offices, departments, and practice areas.
- Manage financial risk, insurance programs, and treasury functions.
- Ensure compliance with tax, audit, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee relationships with banks, auditors, and external advisors.
- Support partner‑level governance processes with clear financial reporting and analysis.
- Lead and mentor the finance, billing, and accounting teams.
- Build a strong service-oriented culture across financial operations.
- Drive adoption of financial systems and technology that improve accuracy, efficiency, and reporting.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for organized, hands on, proactive professionals who are comfortable operating independently and building structure in growing organizations. Someone has experience in people operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- 5+ years of financial leadership experience
- Law firm or professional services experience strongly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of law firm financial models, KPIs, operational metrics, including realization, utilization, partner compensation, trust accounting, and pricing.
- Demonstrated experience leading a finance team and influencing senior leadership.
- Strong analytical, communication, and change‑management skills.
- Expertise with legal financial systems (e.g., Elite 3E, Aderant, ProLaw) is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and client relationships simultaneously.

Pay: $200,000.00 - $250,000.00 per year
