Art Studio Assistant - Glass Polisher
We’re looking for a Studio Assistant to join the team at artist David Ruth's Glass Sculpture Studio. The role is primarily focused on polishing cast glass sculptures and architectural panels using industrial polishing equipment, along with assisting in other areas of the studio such as mold making, fabrication, finishing, and general studio support as needed.
This is a hands-on position in a working sculpture studio, ideal for someone who enjoys physical, detail-oriented work and wants to learn more about glass, fabrication, and the art-making process. A lot of the work involves patience, consistency, and developing an eye for surface quality and finish.
Responsibilities
- Polish cast glass sculptures, tables, etc., using industrial polishing equipment and hand-finishing techniques
- Assist with mold making, casting preparation, fabrication, and other studio processes
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe studio environment
- Work closely with artist and studio staff to complete projects efficiently and at a high level of quality
- Inspect surfaces and finishes carefully to ensure consistency and clarity
- Assist with moving materials, packing artwork, and general studio tasks when needed
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Comfortable working with tools, machinery, and hands-on fabrication processes
- Mechanical aptitude is a plus
- Experience with glass, stone, metal, woodworking, fabrication, or other craft-based finishing work.
- Able to work independently while also collaborating with a team
- Comfortable with physical work and standing for extended periods
